GP4L Testbed Infrastructure User Guide

Who can use the testbed

Any interested party from the R&E community can request a reservation of some or all of the available GP4L testbed resources.

In order to be able to access the reservation system you will first need a VPN profile.

To obtain the VPN profile please contact us at gp4l-admin@lists.geant.org.

Fair use policy

The GP4L testbed should be used fairly by all interested parties. To ensure that nobody will monopolise the use of the tesbed each reservation is manually analysed and if needed more information is requested from the user. Only approved reservations get access to the GP4L testbed environment.

In addition, to help support the fair use policy the current settings of the reservation system define that the minimum amount of time for a reservation is 1 hour, while the maximum is set to 90 days.

How to reserve the testbed

  1. Activate your VPN

    • To access the reservation system you must first obtain a VPN profile. If you don't have a VPN profile please contact us at gp4l-admin@lists.geant.org.
  2. To make a reservation go to https://book.gp4l.nmaas.eu/

    • if you are a new user, create a new account
      • when creating a new account, in the bastion info field you need to also provide the public ssh key that you will use when accessing the testbed
  3. Log in to the reservation system using your credentials

  4. Choose an available resource that you would like to reserve

  5. Provide the reservation details

    • start and end time, list of resources, title and description of the reservation
  6. Create the reservation

    • if needed the admin might request additional information
  8. Reservation status notification

    • you will be notified if your reservation has been authorised or declined

Info

After your reservation is authorised you can still make a change to it if needed. Note that after every change of reservation you need to go through the authorisation process again.

Info

Until reservation start time you are free to make changes to your ssh key stored in your profile. Make sure that the correct value is provided as the key provides the access to the testbed.

Warning

If a resource that you have reserved becomes unavailable due to unforeseen reasons you will be notified via email. You can then choose to make changes to your reservation or leave it as it is.
